The five-storey residential and commercial building, constructed in 1891, is located in the Spandauer Vorstadt in the Berlin-Mitte district and consists of a front building and two side wings with a total of three staircases. The appealing architecture is based on the neoclassical style. Various Art Nouveau elements underpin this aesthetic appearance.

The Spandauer Vorstadt is regarded as the largest and best-preserved historic district of Berlin and is listed as a building ensemble. As the area is a former redevelopment zone, the buildings located there are in correspondingly good condition. The district has experienced a noticeable upturn in recent years and has meanwhile developed into a touristically attractive residential, commercial and trendy quarter with a clear tendency towards gentrification.

On the other side of the street is the development site around the Tacheles complex, which is currently one of the largest construction projects in the city. Numerous apartments, retail space on the ground floor and a hotel are planned. The construction work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020. Large-scale construction projects are also being built in the immediate vicinity, such as the one at the Postfuhramt and the Forum Museumsinsel, which will likewise lead to a noticeable upturn in the quarter.

The last fundamental and extensive refurbishment of the building was carried out by the previous owner in 2006.
